When I listened and watched the hype and the build up of this movie, I thought this has gotta be a fantastic movie and a much needed injection of horror to the, at the time, lacking scene. It did not disappoint. There are many that consider this more of a 'thriller' or even 'Psychological horror' BUT to me this was not so much an evolution of horror but more of a branch on the horror tree.
Yes the suspense is there (in abundance) and yes the gore is there, but what makes this a movie NOT to miss is the excellent acting, writing and directing. It actually holds its own to many good horrors. From the gruesome set up of torture to the edge of the seat timing, this really is a great movie; one that should be owned and not rented or borrowed. Saw should be SEEN!
